It is exciting. It makes sobriety interesting. Just sitting in a Starbucks in southern California waiting for a client can be an experience full of all sorts of emotions. Below are a few bullets to make my point:

The manager is interviewing a candidate to become a coffee maker. He is asking questions and she is answering them as if it were for a position on the law review. All the while he sits back after each question with a strange look of authority that will either grant her the position of strike her away with glorious honor. I really believe the answers don't have much to do with the choice because he keeps staring at her breasts after each question. I just had deja vu...scary. He is a bit creepy. I will pray for her that she doesn't get the job. It will probably save her life. Helpful!

The room is full of young people on computers. They have the right hair. They have the right shoes and shirts and watches. They obviously have the right jobs cause like me they get to spend the day in a Starbucks enjoying the moment. Funny!

You really don't have to buy anything cause if you sit there long enough you will have enough samples of cakes and coffees on promotion to make it through the day. Satisfying!

Beautiful people in and out. I just saw an Afro-American woman who was a work of art. That kind of being in the moment leads to forecasting which takes you out of the moment and into the future. Drop it. Lusty!

The point being that where ever we go we can find all those things and it means more than drinking beer after beer and bottle of wine after bottle of wine or pill after pill and lying about how well we are doing. We wake the next morning wasting time feeling bad and plotting out when and how much we will need to get going again. All while those around you are doing things meaningful like reading or getting ready to partake in a sporting event or tackling that fix up you have been putting off. And all that goes with that. Sober... it can lead to a lot more.

Getting involved with helping people like us and staying in that moment can be one of the most rewarding of all. Going to a shelter or food mission and looking around and being filled with real appreciation from others is a portion of the loop we must all experience. Giving back is part of the circle of life that will keep you going.

Going to the grocery store and picking food and being in that moment is one that will also keep you healthy. Don't just eat to get it over with. Make it a ritual if you have the time. Pick the best produce, the juiciest fruits, and the most lean meats and explore ways to prepare them that will take you to different parts of the world.

The list is endless and if we stay interested in our own lives every moment we will soon want to be sober!

Until next time here's to you!

Time

My first post and for those out there fighting the fight on a minute by minute basis this blog forward will be dedicated to curiosity about living a sober life.

Time seems to be the component that has my curiosity lately. After all it is the biggest killer of mankind. You could say the biggest killer is cancer or smoking or heart problems or whatever but in the end it is time. We only have so much of it from start to finish and knowing how much is gone makes every minute that much more important. Fights have started for as little as being 15 minutes late. Planning how long to my next encounter with alcohol or drugs creates mood. Even love has a time element as to how long that new feeling of excitement will last.

There is definitely an element of time that correlates to happiness or the opposite. Breaking it down our lives are a long line of moments pasted together. Those moments are you and what others have to perceive you by. Our character is developed by it. Hearing the phrase "live in the moment" comes to life. When we do we really learn what living means and we no longer want that period of time messed up with clouded thinking or darkness. Darkness being depression or that place we go when we feel the need to partake in our drug of choice.

It feels good to stay in the moment and as long as the good moments pass pasted together the better it feels. It changes perceptions and being perceived into clearity.

Until next time here's to you!
